Singapore Management University hosted a joint media event by Singtel and Great Eastern Life on 14 March, where three initiatives were unveiled: a sponsorship for Singapore’s first Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Esports team, two new amateur leagues under their PVP Esports banner, and the appointment of Singtel PVP Ambassadors.
Singtel SEA Games Sponsorship
If you haven’t heard, the 2019 SEA Games in Philippines will debut Esports as a medal event! So it is timely that Singtel announced this boost for the local Esports scene. Aiming to represent Singapore in three of the six Esports games is Resurgence, the largest Singapore-based professional Esports organisation. The sponsorship deal includes funding for training and competitions, player stipends and educational opportunities.
Singtel PVP Community League
The amateur leagues – PVP Campus League and PVP Corporate League, will be open to all tertiary students and working professionals respectively. Be prepared to witness official (and non-official) school teams, and even working professionals duke it out on games like Mobile Legends and DOTA 2 for fame, glory, and prizes worth up to S$20,000!
The leagues’ qualifying rounds will begin in May and culminate in a finale event in Singapore in the second half of this year.
Singtel PVP Ambassadors
To support Singapore’s growing reputation for producing Esports talent, Singtel launched their PVP Ambassadors programme with RZR Xian, Asterisk and Resurgence as pioneers to promote the local Esports scene and nurture the next generation of Esports athletes. Could the next EVO Champion or TI winner come from the Little Red Dot? Only time will tell…
RZR Xian can now add Singtel to his impressive list of A-list sponsors after being appointed as a pioneer PVP Ambassador. In a Facebook post, Xian said “Looking forward to working together with Singapore’s biggest telecom and Asia’s leading communication’s group, thank you so much for supporting my gaming journey! I will not let you down ????????“
