Slayer Stands Up for His Wife and Dandyism in Guilty Gear Strive

by Elvis Mack

Slayer has always been a favorite in the guilty gear universe. A vampire who oversees everything that happens in the story. However, chooses to stay away in order to maintain balance both in the world and in Dandyism. However, it seems like he wants to jump back into the spotlight with his most recent edition to Guilty Gear Strive. Many fans were excited to see him and many Chipp players feared how much damage they could do to him (Spoilers: A lot).

Short and Sweet

Slayer’s Win Pose in Guilty Gear Strive

Slayer is a brawler with unique movement, however perfecting that movement is very important. As on hit he does the highest pound for pound damage in the entire game. Any counter hit will be devasting for your opponent and could lead to a quick round if not ready. However, his pokes and neutral are very sub-par and need to read the opponent to maximize his efficiently. In Strive his gameplay didn’t change all too much from his last version. The major change comes from the new UNIVERSE mechanic.

During UNIVERSE any hit he lands triggers it, this mechanic causes that hit to effectively be a counterhit leading to new combos that wouldn’t work otherwise. Likewise, he can combo his Bloodstucking Universe command grab into it using a roman cancel.

Overall, while he stayed mostly the game, he is not out of retirement just yet and the old dog still has new tricks. With the UNIVERSE mechanic in addition to his dandy step dashes and big damage players who wants to pick the ball and run with it should look into him. He won’t be available for tournament use for the Arc World Tour till around CEO. However, something tells me we will be a lot more vampires in our brackets in the near future.
