Tabletop News! 25/01/19

by GameStart Asia

A small news update this week. That’s good for our wallets, right? RIGHT? Well…

Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth

Yeah. Your wallet can start crying again. Fantasy Flight Games are gearing up to release a new Lord of the Rings game. It’s an app-driven campaign experience just like Mansions of Madness and it looks fantastic! The base game will hit later this year for around US$100! Then the expansions will keep on coming!

From the publisher:

Embark on your own adventures in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic world with The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, a fully co-operative, app-supported board game for one to five players! You’ll battle villainous foes, make courageous choices, and strike a blow against the evil that threatens the land — all as part of a thrilling campaign that leads you across the storied hills and dales of Middle-earth.

Each individual game of Journeys in Middle-earth is a single adventure in a larger campaign. You’ll explore the vast and dynamic landscapes of Middle-earth, using your skills to survive the challenges that you encounter on these perilous quests. As you and your fellow heroes explore the wilderness and battle the dark forces arrayed against you, the game’s companion app guides you to reveal the looming forests, quiet clearings, and ancient halls of Middle-earth, while also controlling the enemies you encounter. Whether you’re venturing into the wild on your own or with close companions by your side, you can write your own legend in the history of Middle-earth.

Lift Off

Z-Man Games always puts out interesting and visually appealing games. 2019 looks like it’s business as usual from them. Lift Off looks pretty nifty. A 2 to 4 player game set in the era of the space race.

From the publisher:

1950/1960: The race into space is in full swing! We’re making great progress on the techniques for supplying astronauts and space-ready machines, for optimizing launch conditions, and of course for designing the much-needed rockets. All this to explore the sheer vastness of space.

But in Lift Off, not only are two superpowers competing for the most glorious milestones of space travel, no, we players are also very involved. In this game, we each play a private space agency that wants to develop in their own areas. We must hire specialists, improve our rockets, and expand our capabilities because soon we have to decide which missions we want to carry out and what we want to bring into space. Only those who plan ahead and properly manage the resources available will win this race to the stars…

Definitely digging the 50s/60s visual style that this game brings to the table.

Z-Man Games again! In Aerion, a solo/co-operative game for 1-2 players, you must find the best blueprints, acquire the finest construction materials, and recruit the best crew. Discarding cards can adjust your die rolls, but be careful not to exhaust your resources! Can you build the best fleet? Aerion will include six expansion modules with new options and challenges that will bring a lot of replayability to the game.

We are looking forward to this one as we absolutely adored Onirim!

Too Many Poops

Kickstarter time.

Too Many Poops is a cat collection card game where players compete to become the first to score 10 points of cats in their home. But the more cats you have, the more poops you’ll get—and too many will lose you the game! Adopt cats from the pet store, donate rival cats to other players, and use lures to get you the cats that will score you the most.

Fully funded on Kickstarter within 24 hours this is a must for all cat owners. The artwork is simple yet cute and the Pooples are adorable. You can back it HERE.

We can see this getting to the table quite a bit. Nothing quite like Clearing the Cat Litter: The Game!

See you all next week!
