If you pre-ordered Mortal Kombat 11 (MK11) or were lucky enough to snag a beta access code, you probably had a bloody good time over the weekend 😉 The beta we tested had only 3 characters (Scorpion, Baraka, and Skarlet) but we certainly look forward to reworked characters like:
- Sonya Blade, who will be voiced by MMA fighter turned WWE wrestler Rhonda Rousey and even has a stance named after world-class MK player SonicFox.
- OG final boss Shang Tsung – who looks and sounds familiar because it’s modeled after actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who starred as the baddie in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film!
- How’s this for a krossover – Todd Mcfarlane’s Spawn! When asked by fans last year if Spawn would be an MK11 guest character in a Reddit Ask Me Anything, McFarlane replied, “I believe he’s on his way…”
WARNING: Extreme noob testing out the game, please don’t flame and enjoy footage of me being totally owned 😀
In MK11 there will be more ways to kustomise your character in 3 weapon/armor slots. They’re not just kosmetic changes though, you can combine different skills in up to 3 spaces. We love the original Scorpion kostume but his alternate ones are just as kool!
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment spared no expense in the visuals for MK11. There’s more blood and broken bones than a hospital ER, cinematics, background interactions, and vicious moves than ever. Flashy and life chunking Fatal Blows (precursors to Fatalities) are easier to execute against opponents with lower life bars. Strikes deliver a satisfying squelch or crunch and my PS4 controller gleefully let me know how bad my opponent was murdering me 😛
Scorpion was the weapon of choice for most of my opponents and from the videos, it was easy to see why. His long-range attacks and combos were easy to execute even for a relatively inexperienced player like me.
Will you be playing MK11 on launch date (April 23 2019)? No matter which platform you’re playing on – Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows – give this game a go and you just might be a konvert to one of the pioneers of the fighting game genre.
