In a move that not many anticipated, Riot Games showed up at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase for a really interesting announcement.
Sometime in Winter 2022, the entire Riot Games PC and mobile game lineup, which includes League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Valorant, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics, will all be available on Xbox Game Pass.
The announcement by Riot Games president Marc Merrill unveiled the developer’s partnership with Xbox Game Pass, and its plans to bring its library of games to the subscription service alongside bonus free content.
While these games are all already free-to-play, purchasing a Game Pass subscription promises tons of extra stuff up-front and free. Here’s a rundown of the freebies Game Pass subscribers get from day one:
- League of Legends and League of Legends: Wild Rift: All current champions are unlocked, as well as first-day access to all future champions
- Valorant: All 18 agents are unlocked
- Legends of Runeterra: Players get the Foundations Card Set
- Teamfight Tactics: Players get a set of Little Legends characters
In addition, players can gain XP boosts to level up faster, “and more” with Game Pass.
These new additions provide a decent expansion of the Game Pass library into the PC and mobile gaming space, thus showing off the Game Pass’s wide reach across devices. One thing of note is that Riot’s games are not on Xbox or console, despite the Xbox part of the Game Pass name – at least for now.
“We’ve always respected Xbox’s relentless push to drive gaming forward, and we’re proud to add our games to the Xbox catalog through Game Pass,” said Merrill in the newsletter. “We’re also thrilled to welcome Xbox players into Riot’s ecosystem of diverse and passionate gamers across the world.”
Gamers can expect these five games to launch on Game Pass this coming winter. Besides Riot, many other games are expected to come to Game Pass as well, such as upcoming releases Starfield and the Forza Motorsport reboot.
